All Appointments

All patients seen in our clinic must be referred to a Paediatrician by their Family Physician, Nurse Practitioner, Registered Midwife, or other Consultant Physician.

What to Bring

Please bring any current prescription medications with you so these can be reviewed.

For educational and developmental assessments, bring a copy of any report cards, academic test reports or Child Development Centre reports to the appointment. You can fax (250-754-1211) or drop off (see the home page for our location) the reports before the appointment so the Paediatrician can review them before your child is seen.

Please bring toys or books to entertain your child and yourself if you should have to wait. Although there are videos to watch and some magazines, to limit the spread of infection we recommend you bring your own entertainment.

For children still in diapers, please bring a change of diaper with you just in case. Please check with staff about disposal of any dirty diapers.

Appointment Times

Please show up a least 10 minutes in advance of your appointment time so you can be checked-in and we can make sure you have all your necessary information for the appointment.

If you are late for your appointment, please let us know. Depending on the time and other children's appointments you will have less time to review your child with the Paediatrician or your appointment will need to be rescheduled to another day to allow for enough time for a proper assessment.

If you are unable to attend for an appointment, it is expected that you will call and cancel with 48 hours notice, so that the appointment time can be used for another child that is waiting.

If you miss two appointments without notice, you will be referred back to your Primary Care Provider for ongoing care and will require another referral to see a Paediatrician.

New consultation appointments range in time from 45 minutes to 1 hour. Follow up appointments are usually 20 to 30 minutes.

Virtual Care

Although not all problems can be addressed by virtual care, we can provide virtual care appointments by telephone.

Virtual care has some inherent privacy risks that your health information may be unintentionally disclosed. We want to make sure you understand this before we proceed. In order to improve privacy and confidentiality, you should also take steps to particpate in this virtual care encounter in a private setting and should not use an employer's or someone else's device as they may be able to access your information.

If it is determined that you require a physical exam, you may still need to be assessed in person.

You should also understand that virtual care is not a substitute for attending the Emergency Department if urgent care is needed.

Consent To Use Electronic Communications
At the onset of a virtual care visit, we will ask you for your verbal consent to proceed. You can Click this link for a consent form to fill out and return indicating you understand and consent to sharing of personal information by electronic means.

Follow Up

Your Family Physician or Nurse Practitioner remains your Primary Care provider to deal with any urgent care issues that come up, even if you are seeing a Paediatrician for a problem on a regular basis at our clinic. Our staff will counsel you to see your Primary Care Provider in between scheduled visits with your Paediatrician, should you feel that your child requires medical assessment. Your Primary Care Provider may contact your Paediatrician or the Paediatrician on-call, if he/she feels your child requires urgent assessment.

Patients that are followed regularly by a Paediatrician require re-referral from their Primary Care Provider every 6 months.

Do You Need A Prescription Refill?
If your child is on regular medication, before you leave the office, please make sure you have a prescription to last you until your next Family Physician or Paediatrician follow-up.

What to do if the Clinic is Closed

Our answering machine will let you know when the clinic is closed. As we are a consultant office, we do not see urgent problems in the office or see patients without appointments. Urgent Care Clinics and the Emergency Department are appropriate places to seek care for urgent problems when your Primary Care Provider is not available.
