Welcome!
The Paediatrician in this office works to provide the best possible medical care for your child. Our task is to evaluate, investigate, and diagnose problems that your Family Physician, Nurse Practitioner, or Registered Midwife has asked us to help with. We are consultants and your child’s usual health care will continue to be provided by your Primary Health Care Provider.
The physicians and/or surgeons working in this office are licensed and registered with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia. Verify their credentials through the registrant directory at www.cpsbc.ca.
Staff
Our experienced staff are your first contact with the Clinic. They answer the telephone, make appointments, relay questions and messages, and handle your documents and billings. The staff will try to help you with any questions or requests that you may have.
Safety
Your health is our top priority. So is everyone's safety. We all deserve respect. If you have respectful feedback or have any concerns that we can help with, let us know. However, if you are treating anyone in an aggressive or verbally abusive manner, you may be asked to leave.
Office Hours
Office hours are variable and the Paediatrician is not available every day of the week. Please call our staff to find out when our office is open and when the Paediatrician is available. Office hours are variable but if you call and leave a message we will return your call as soon as possible. We are closed on Friday.
Prescription Renewals
Prescription refills should be obtained at your regular visits with your Paediatrician. You may be requested to see your Primary Health Care Provider in between paediatric appointments, for medical check up and prescription renewal. A letter will be sent to your Family Physician or Nurse Pracitioner with the details of your child’s medications.
Do You Need a Prescription Renewal?
If you need a refill of your child's medication, your Primary Health Care Provider can renew your child's prescription. Pharmacists can provide an emergency supply of medication to maintain continuity of care.
Always Make Sure You Have Enough!
Some medications, such as anti-seizure medication, cannot be stopped suddenly. Always make sure you have enough medication for an uninterrupted supply.
Telephone Calls
When you believe a call rather than an appointment is
indicated for a particular problem, the inquiry will be first addressed
by our reception staff. If the advice of the Paediatrician is required,
this will be forwarded to you by return call. Please do not expect the
Paediatrician to leave a patient to answer patient telephone calls.
Laboratory and Imaging Results
If your Paediatrician has ordered tests on your child they will
let you know how those results will be provided to you. In most cases,
normal results will not be phoned to the parents. The Paediatrician
will notify parents of abnormal results, when they are available. A copy
of any test results will also be sent to your Family Physician. Please
feel free to call our office about any test results on your child and our
staff will assist you.
Forms, Notes and Letters
The Medical Services Plan does not pay for the costs related to
filling out forms for third parties such as your employer, school,
insurance, lawyer, disability, and income tax. It also does not cover
the costs of letters that you may need for the school or other agencies
involved with the care of your child. There will be a fee for these documents.
Medical Students and Residents
We have medical students, Family Practice Residents and
Paediatric Residents working with us in the office as part of their
training. Residents are physicians who are receiving extra
training in their specialty. They may see your child alone but your
child will always be reviewed with you by the Paediatrician.
You will be told before your appointment if there is a Resident or
Medical Student who will be seeing you and your child. If you are
uncomfortable with Medical Students or Residents, you can always ask to see the
Paediatrician alone.
